Welcome Back to term 4

Hope you all had a fantastic holiday and are ready again to learn as much as possible in our last seven weeks of term this year.
For writing this term we will be looking at different types of poetry and writing a variety of poems our focus is
Use descriptive words to write poetry.
Learning Intentions:
I can be selective in my choice of words to choice the best one.
I can use a thesaurus and dictionary to help me find and spell correctly the best words.
I can plan, write and redraft and refine my poem.
In Reading our strategy we are working on is Visualisation.
WALT visualize when we read.
Visualisation is a strategy through which we draw on our senses to picture and think about the images we gain in our mind as we read:
-       Before we read we will gain images from headings, illustrations and key words
-       During reading we will gain images from the vocabulary, structures and literacy devices used in the sentences we read and the illustrations that support the text.
-       After reading we will visualize using the information we have gained and learned.
Success Criteria
-       Think about and tell our group what we see/hear/smell/taste/touch as we read
-       Use words from the text to support images we see/hear/smell/taste/touch as we read
-       Use nouns, and adjectives, verbs to tell others of our images as we read
-       Use phrases from the text to talk about and support the images we read.
-       Use punctuation from the text to talk about and support the images we read
Use literacy devices used by the author to explain what we image as we read eg ‘as loud as’ simile
In Mathematics we will be looking at probability.  We will be learning to :
I am learning that probability is the chance of outcomes occurring
I am learning to systematically find out all possible outcomes
I am learning to design and carry out trials to find out all possible outcomes.

Check out our new sites to look at.  We have a link to a poetry site, and a link to an omline wordfind site.  Have fun exploring these new sites.

Sking Character Descriptions

He was amazed when he came down the mountain.  He was going at the fastest momentum.  He was cold and his legs were as cold as an ice block.  He had bright green ski pants.  His ski shirt was bright pink.  He was feeling awesome.
Samuel.

He was moving swiftly down the slope.  He falls over a lot.  When he skis he has a funny way of skiing, He bends down putting his hands on the back of the skis and goes down the slope.  He's wearing warm clothes that are soaked with snow because he falls over to often.
Thomas

I have knobbly knees and frozen toes.  My legs are Popsicles.  I am wearing baggy wet weather pants.  My black glasses are shinning but my hat is bright.  I feel like a green highlighter in a world of grey.  I was amazed but scared at the same time.  I skidded from side to side as I scared the blood out of me.
Fergus.

He looked scared when he was zooming across the ski field.  He was wearing a bright jacket and bright goggles.  His skis looked sharp as a knife.  He was so fast he did a big skid.  He looked very excited and nervous.
Caleb

She was really awesome, but she was scared when she was on the top of the mountain.  She was wearing big sunglasses.  She was warm as a fire, with a warm silver jacket on.  She went really fast down the hill.  She felt like she couldn't stop.  This is me.
Ruby

I felt truely amazed because I had just managed to land the jump that I was aiming to do!

My clothing was bright green and bright blue and it it made it look like I dunked in a bath tub of green and blue highlighter ink.

Then I crashed into the fence with tremendous power, but I wouldn't give up and zoomed down the hill at 65 miles per hour.  But after 5 minutes we had to go and I felt really sad.
Hayley

I'm going like a jet.  I'm fast as lighting. I 'm zooming down the step hill "aaa" crash .
James

I was dressed in warm clothes with my gloves and warm knitted hat on that kept my head and my freezing ears warm.  When I was going up the lift to the top of the mountain I was shaking because I was nervous.  When I came zooming down the mountain I had knobbly knees as my sunglasses were slipping down my face as my sunglases were reflecting in the sun.
